A great hoot was had by all at our recent ‘Meet the Owls’ evening for Owl sponsors and businesses interested in finding out more about this summer’s interactive city-wide sculpture trail.

Owls of Bath artists, supersized owl sculptures, owl sponsors and owlets gathered at Spaces, Bath’s new co-working office space, to hear more about the interactive owls, meet the artists and have their photo taken with Ghost the real Barn Owl, from The Owlery in Newton St Loe.

Event organiser Megan Witty spoke about the latest plans for the trail, including the owls’ interactive beacons that will send details of each owl to people’s phones as they approach them, and the four event charities spoke about the importance of Bath businesses sponsoring owls to help the event raise as much as possible for their work.

See a short video of the evening here.

The highlight of the event was seeing talented Bath artists Julia Trickey, Jo McCarron, Naomi Johns and Vera Carbin painting their super-sized owl sculptures.

Julia Trickey’s ‘Peafowl’,  sponsored by SouthGate Bath will be displayed near Bath artist Jane Callan’s gold ‘Owl and the Pussycat’ at SouthGate this summer.

Jo McCarron’s book-themed ‘J K Rowling’, sponsored by MHA Monahans, will be displayed outside their offices in Pierrepont Street;

Vera Carbin’s owl, ‘Emily’, sponsored by Norland College, is being decorated as one of the famous nannies, and a smaller Owlet, sponsored by The Owlery, and decorated with different species of owls (what else?!) is being painted by Owlery deputy director and artist-in-residence 17 year old Naomi Johns.

‘Ono’, the Owlet, decorated by some of the Bath Young Carers and sponsored by SouthGate, was also on show and much admired by all!

A big thank you to Spaces Bath for kindly providing the excellent venue; to Perry’s Cider for very kindly supplying their delicious Barn Owl Cider; Novel Wines for providing the bar and delicious organic wine; Mervyn from Taking Pictures for the video and Beata Cosgrove for photography and setting up the Owl Photo Studio.

A huge hoot-out to our Owls of Bath 2018 headline sponsor SouthGate and Event Sponsors Curo, Allen Ford, Yewtrade, Bath BID, Bath Percent Club, Norland College and MHA Monahans for your great support and to all of our owl sculpture sponsors., without whooooo the event would not be possible!
